Exercise releases molecules that helps fire up our neurons, especially in our memory systems. We grow our capacity to learn and remember through activating a gene called BDNF, which releases a protein necessary for learning also called BDNF. With exercise, we ready our minds to be open to new things. If these new things are important to us (meaning, relevant), then we remember them better.
